Bar Care

Why does natural cold-pressed soap have a shorter lifespan compared to store-bought soap?

Cold-pressed soaps often don’t last as long as store-bought options because they are made with natural oils and butters, lacking synthetic hardening agents. They retain natural glycerin during the saponification process, which moisturizes but also attracts moisture, causing faster dissolution if not kept dry. Without synthetic fillers and preservatives, they rely on a natural curing process that, while beneficial for the skin, results in a softer bar. Cold-pressed soaps also tend to have a higher "superfat" content for extra nourishment, which can further reduce their hardness compared to mass-produced alternatives.

How to get the best out of your bar?

Keep it Dry Between Uses

Store your soap in a well-draining soap dish to allow excess water to escape. This helps prevent sogginess and prolongs its lifespan.

Limit Direct Water Exposure

Avoid leaving your soap in direct streams of water, such as in the shower. This will help it dry out between uses.

Store Properly

Keep unused bars in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight or heat sources. This helps maintain their quality over time.

Use a Soap Saver

Consider using a soap saver pouch or bag. This not only helps with lathering but also allows the soap to dry between uses, reducing waste.
